We received a special visit from some family on the Fourth of July weekend. We had a lot of fun. We went to this little place called Reeds Lake and walked around. And we couldn't really attend a fireworks show with Elise around this year, but fortunately we could see a local show from our porch!! Elise was sporting a little patriotic outfit and was lookin' cute. And Ellen and Dave just celebrated their anniversary (hence the cake!).

OBSESSION
We have discovered Elise's second obsession.....STRAPS!! (Sucking on her fingers was the first). She is absolutely into straps. Her face always lights up whenever we put her into anything with straps. She studies them, feels them, and mostly chews on them!!

Happy Dad's Day!
I get to celebrate my first Dad's day this year. What a privilege! And a joy! Elise turned 6 months the other day, so we had a little photoshoot with her to celebrate. Here's a slideshow from that.
Today was a momentous day for Elise. She got to try solid foods for the first time! Okay not exactly solid foods. When Heather said we were going to give her carrots I thought we were going to chop them up and give them to her. Then she pointed out that Elise doesn't have teeth and that didn't work. What I didn't know was she had bought some carrot baby food. So today was Elise's time tasting something besides milk or oatmeal cereal, which she seemed to get pretty bored with very quickly. So today is her first taste of something with some "pizaaz". Here's her first reaction:
She was delighted right away! You can see the orange color still on her lips from her first bite. She sort of changed the tune of her song after a few more bites though:
Yesterday they had a little event out at the airport I work at. Heather brought Elise. We took time to pose by one of the planes I instruct in.

Mission Aviation Fellowship allowed two of its pilots that fly in the jungles of Indonesia to take a trek on foot to one of the villages that they fly to. The point was to see what kind of trouble these flights are saving the missionaries who use them. The place they were headed normally took them 30 minutes to get to by air. However the trek on foot took them several days, with too much drama to even begin to mention here. But they documented and described the whole trip with pictures and it is rather exciting. And it was cool for me because it reminded me of why we are doing all of this to prepare to fly airplanes in the middle of no-where. And more than that why we are preparing to leave our families to go do it. That is one particular part of the whole thing Heather and I have been struggling with more and more as the time draws near for us to go. It gave me a good description, with pictures, of the reason the airplane is such a blessing in the remote parts of the world. I remember the first time I heard about this kind of flying, and the excitement I got when I found out how much trouble and time these flights save people who want to help those in remotest parts of the world. The pilot who told the story, Dave, said he was still dealing with wounds and infections that were a result from the trip a month afterwards! Here's a little pic of Dave I took off his website as a sort of "teaser"
